Estimated dispatch dates
Our estimated dispatch dates are based on the latest stock and lead time data available to us on a daily basis. Please note that there are occasionally exceptions to this estimation – these can include orders over a certain quantity where we have to check with our manufacturers, and also where we encounter unforeseen circumstances such as unexpectedly high seasonal demand.
All in-stock will be dispatched the same day – normally for delivery next working day providing the items being ordered are in stock and the order is placed by 5pm. There is no extra charge for this service.
Every item is fully insured against loss or damage so we can guarantee the safe arrival of your order.
Handling and carriage charges
Please note these charges are specific to website orders, catalogue charges differ. There may be an additional delivery charge based on non-mainland UK locations and in the instances of non-stock items being delivered (such as bulky, heavy or hazardous goods).In the unlikely event that your order incurs additional charges, you will be contacted by our Customer Service Team at the point your order is being processed.

We think that you’ll be 100% satisfied with your purchases from Smiths Retail, however, if for any reason you’re not completely happy or have simply changed your mind, then we can arrange a replacement product within 30 days of delivery.
You may cancel your order by giving us notice of cancellation prior to delivery of the goods to you or your local Smiths Hire depot for collection by you. Such notice may be given by phone, 01253 603843 fax or email.
Once we have received your order and an order has been placed with our supplier any cancelled orders may be subject to a cancellation / re-stocking charge, additional carriage charges may also apply for the return of the goods.
On cancellation of your order for whatever reason, you must return any goods you have received to us at your cost unless we agree that you may dispose of them in which case please comply with the manufacturer’s instructions before disposing of electrical or hazardous goods.
Where the goods are being returned because they are faulty we reserve the right to have the faulty goods repaired or replaced under the terms and conditions of the manufacturer’s warranty, details of which are supplied with the goods.
When contacting us to arrange a return, it would be helpful if you could have the following information to hand:
- Original Purchase Order Number or our Smiths Hire Confirmation Order Number
- Confirmation the goods are still in the original packaging and in a resalable condition
- Details and quantities of items you would like to return
- Any other reference you will need us to quote when collecting the items
